[The Preceptor]

In the year 2010 the Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, saved the world by stopping the apocalypse. Sam had said his farewells to his brother and agreed to become Lucifer's vessel, eventually leading to a showdown at Stull Cemetery in Lawrence Kansas between he and his brother, the archangel Michael, who was, at the time, inhabiting the body of their half-brother, Adam Milligan. It was through the sheer force of his will that Sam was able to overpower Lucifer's influence and take Michael with him as he fell into a portal leading to hell that had been opened by Dean using the rings of the Four Horsemen.

You may think you know how the story goes on from here, but let me assure you that you probably don't know as much as you think you do. No more than a day had passed before Castiel was given orders to retrieve both Sam and Adam from Hell, leaving Michael and Lucifer behind in the cage. Now the greatest threats of Heaven and Hell were trapped, the Winchesters were able to get back to what hunting was all about... ghosts, vampires, wendigos... the good ol' days. They, along with many new friends and allies they met along the way, were back in the family business. And over the years, they passed down their trade to families of their own.

In 2013 the brothers met their paternal grandfather, Henry Winchester, when he accidentally came through a portal from the year 1958 looking for their father, soon followed by a vicious Knight of Hell, Abaddon. It was Henry who revealed to them the existence of the Men of Letters. With Henry's help, Sam and Dean managed to stop Abaddon with a devil's trap carved into a bullet and shooting her in the head and then cutting off her hands and head and encasing her in cement. No, we're not going to tell you where.

The year is now 2040. The world is still full of evil but Heaven and Hell have seemed content to stay on their respective sides and sort out the souls that come to them. That isn't to say that they don't try to influence humans with crossroads deals and televangelists and the like, but there hasn't been an ultra-heavy presence of either side on Earth since the fall of Michael and Lucifer.

Now, the children of Sam and Dean and their allies are continuing the legacy their parents left behind. Some are active hunters, some take on the role as researchers. The Men of Letters has thrived thanks to the recruiting efforts of Sam and Dean. They have come to find out that the Men of Letters was actually founded in the 1500s after the disappearance of the Roanoke Colony. Eventually a third base was built as a safe haven and meeting place.
