Beccalynn was sitting at her laptop on her motel bed. She sighed inwardly when her search came up empty, yet again. She was on a routine hunt for a woman in white. The only bad thing was the woman’s family was dead. So she was trying to look up virtually nonexistent information about the woman’s grave. Or what graveyard she was in, something to get her close enough to where she could find the woman’s remains. Becca was getting pissed off, so she set her laptop on the bedside table and pulled out her cigarettes and her lighter from her bag.
She walked out of her motel room and locked the door behind her. She walked down the long winding stairs and out to her car. She paused a minute to look around and get her bearings, all the while making sure nothing was there while she indiscreetly lit her cigarette. She started to walk away from her car and the hill that led to a beautiful view of the city on the other side. She got up to the top of the hill and looked around taking in all the lights and their colors. She took a drag off of her cigarette, thinking about what she could do to find her case. Until then, she was stuck here. As she sat on the hill, she didn’t feel the person coming up behind her.
She felt a small hand on her shoulder and she jumped”, Oh my God!”
Hayyel was on his way to nowhere. There was no job for him to do at the moment but there was no point in him going back to Heaven either. He'd have another job soon enough, so he had to be patient. In doing that he discovered something to do, a small cat all alone that was trapped in a gutter. He'd helped the poor creature out and set her free. It made him feel nice, to see a wild animal being happy, free and healthy. The cat was thin but fine, obviously a mother who lived alone in an alley with only her kittens for company.
His attention shifted however at the scent of cigarette smoke hit his nose. He felt his stomach twist in disgust and turned around to find the source. It was a woman, standing alone on a hill up the street from him. He frowned a bit and make his way, unable to fight off the need to stop her. Smoking was a bad habit and he wanted to help her. He strode, his feet silent in the grass until he reached her.
He straightened the baseball cap perched on his head then stood on tip toes to put his hand on her shoulder. The woman jumped and he stepped back, a shameful look on his face. "I'm sorry!" He cried, his voice so small, like his body. Of course he couldn't just blurt out that he was an angel, so he had to play the child. "I'm Jared... I didn't mean to scare you, I just wanted to say that smoking is bad for you."

Beccalynn smiled at the innocence of the child and patted his shoulder and said,"Aw I know little guy, but with the things that I've seen and done, they sure help."
She thought back to when Taylor had first gotten her into hunting. She thought of her first reaction to everything and finally being told that things really DO go bump in the night. She couldn't imagine what her life would be like today if she hadn't followed Taylor. She realized she had gone into a flashback and focused her attention back on the small boy.
She then sighed, stood up, and took another drag off of her cigarette. She looked down the hill, back towards the motel, and looked around for the boy's parents, he couldn't have been more than ten or eleven.
She asked,"Hey, Jared, is that right? Where are your folks? Do they know you're out here? I bet they're worried sick lookin' for you."
She then threw her cigarette butt on the ground and stomped on it with her boot to put it out. She started to walk down the hill. Figuring Jared would follow, so she could at least be a good citizen and try to help his parents find him.
Hayyel forced a childish smile onto his lips when the woman spoke of ‘his’ parents. He only had one and he was fairly sure with all the happenings that a lonely little nature angel was not of his Father’s highest concern. Still, he had to play the place of his human host while speaking to this human so the childish smile was fixed on his lips and he shook his head, removing his ball cap as he followed the woman quickly. “My parent’s don’t really care about me much,” He told her, keeping his voice light and nonchalant.
The Angel felt a slight irk of annoyance at the lack of speed which his child host possessed. He dispiced the short legs but forced himself to remember that Jared was a kind boy and deserved more respect from Hayyel. He caught up to the woman and pulled his hat over his head again as he walked. He remained silent as he walked then remembered that human children were hardly known for being quiet, so he debated what to say.
“I’m Jared by the way, what’s your name?” He asked her “Not that I ‘posed to talk to strangers butt you seem ok,” He said, rushing his words as though last minute thoughts… Which truthfully they were. Humans were such odd creatures. Still he was doing alright, or at least he hoped he was.

Beccalynn looked down at the boy shocked. She remembered a time in her life when she felt like that about her parents. She looked back over her shoulder and realized she was walking too fast for the little guy. She listened to his innocent chatter and smiled at the true innocence of him. She slowed her pace and continued to walk next to him and listen to him talk. Becca went into a memory of when she used to do that to her parents. When everything seemed alright and her parents weren’t going to split up. She remembered when she was thirteen and she wouldn’t have to worry about where her home would be or if she’d have food.
She replied,” Well Jared, I’m Beccalynn. I won’t hurt you. So what makes you think your rents don’t care about you?”
As she waited for Jared to answer, she took out another cigarette, lighting it up, and trying her best to keep the smoke away from Jared. She hated blowing the smoke near someone who wasn't used to it. It was inconsiderate and rude. She didn't like being perceived like that.
Jared didn’t like to lie but he really wasn’t in the position to tell the truth to this human. He could hardly say his parents had abandoned Jared and that an Angel had taken over his dying body. One, Beccalynn would most likely think he was crazy and he didn’t want to deal with an insane asylum at the moment. With the current going ons he needed to be out and about, passing messages, helping when needed. He was realizing he probably made a mistake talking to Beccalynn in the beginning.
“Oh, this and that. Never have really.”He replied trying to sound vague and as if he didn’t want to talk about it. Which he didn’t… He reached into his pocket and withdrew a green lollipop which he opened and stuck in his mouth. “Where are you from?” He asked her after a second, trying to change the subject.
While walking he tried to figure out a way to escape the human. He didn’t mind talking to her for a while, make sure she was fairly safe but he’d need to leave. He could just up and vanish as all angels could but he didn’t want to. That made humans curious and thought curiosity killed the cat, it wasn’t healthy for humans either.
