Welcome to SU: Legacy, a next-gen Supernatural RP that takes place in the year 2040. The Men of Letters has expanded to include three base locations across the continental US. Angels and demons have gone mostly dormant but there are still supernatural evils lurking in the shadows. The legacies could use your help. Are you in?
Giving credit where credit is due. A big thank you to all the coders at PBS and various resource sites for any codes, plug-ins and templates.
Thanks to Nick @ Fidelius for the fabulous mini-profile. Everything else was created by our own staff. If we missed someone please let us know.
We don't own Supernatural, we just enjoy it's awesomeness. Thanks Eric Kripke for creating it, all the writers/producers for putting out a great show and the CW for keeping it on the air for almost 10 years now!
Okay, folks, here’s the deal. We’ve been pretty laid back with things like people being inactive or not claiming faceclaims for their characters because of the revamp. But, by now everyone who was hangin’ around has had plenty of time to adjust themselves and what have you. We’re gonna start crackin’ down on some things, so you might wanna study up so you know what’s goin’ down.
-INACTIVITY-
So, here’s a little somethin’ about inactivity. We’ve had a couple people do this thing where they show up, tell us they’re active, claim their face, and maybe make one post somewhere… and then never show up again until we list them as inactive. Then they miraculously show up just in the nick of time and make another post before they disappear again. This is a problem, especially if you play a canon.
We move at a pretty slow pace here, but there’s a difference between posting slow, and… well, not posting anything. It’s not fair to other people if you hog a canon or a faceclaim and just sit on it not doing anything.
Now, this is not the same as having a character hangin’ around you don’t know what to do with. If you are an active member and have some characters that aren’t doing much at the moment, but you still want to do something with ‘em eventually, that’s fine. Just let us know that’s what’s going on so we don’t archive your stuff and take away your faceclaim.
-PLOTTING AND GETTING INVOLVED-
We realize that some of you might be having trouble getting your character involved in roleplaying, which can lead to inactivity. It’s not like we have a really huge player base, so it might not be easy to just jump into things. It might be a good idea to think up some kind of a base plot for your character and post the idea to see who’s up for jumping into that with you. Or, if you’re not sure what to do, start reading through applications and posts to try to find a character you’d like to post with, and also someone who has an RP style kind of like yours. If you like to write real long, detailed posts, find someone who does the same thing. If you like shorter posts, find someone who does shorter posts too.
Remember, there are other characters hanging around other than the canons, and the canons can’t be everywhere at once. Not sayin’ you can’t try to plot with a canon, just explore your options.
If you’re really having a problem – either you can’t find someone to RP with, or you’re not having good writing chemistry with who you’re RP’ing with, anything – let us know so we can try to help you out.
Basically, just try to get yourself involved.
-CHARACTER APPLICATIONS-
Another big thing we’re gonna be doing is crackin’ down on character applications. Now, we’ve been pretty damn thorough in our reviews, and we’ll keep on doing that, but we’ve also been real cool with working with people to help them out in the application process. You know, help them explore their character, try to find a way to make a new kind of species fit in around here without causing problems. But, it turns out all this does is bite us in the ass. Every time. Every time someone’s applied and their bio. needed a whole ton of editing, and we’ve tried to have them make those edits, it’s been a problem for us and we’ve been disrespected.
So, here’s the deal with that. If your application’s not up to par for whatever reason, we’re gonna stick a big ol’ Fail stamp on it, then PM you with some nice and thorough feedback, and you can either take it, or leave it, and if you leave it and are offended that we even had the nerve to suggest you change anything, just get the hell out and let the door hit you in the ass on the way because we don’t wanna hear it. There will be no debate about those edits. If you come back at us and say, “But I wanted my character to have cool powers because he’s just so great, and I promise not to abuse them” or “My bio only looks like I just had my cat walk across the keyboard cuz my computer doesn’t have spell check” or “I don’t get why you don’t think this species fits…” we’re just gonna deny the application, and you can feel free to apply for another character. If you bitch at us about it, you’ll get yourself banned. We’re sick of dealing with assholes.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but if you’re reading this, then it probably means you’re not banned, which means that doesn’t apply to you. Or, you’re new, in which case it could apply to you, but basically just don’t get bitchy with us about your application, alright?
A few key things to keep in mind: 1. Powers
If you want to play a powerful character (either one that has a lot of powers and abilities, or one that has powers that are different than ones we’ve seen on the show) you’re gonna get a little resistance on our end. See, we’ve had a lot of people tryin’ to walk up in here like they own the place, flinging people around and crap with their powers. So, if you want your character to have some nifty powers, it’s not impossible. But what we’ll do is ask you to tone it down, and once we see how you RP and, basically, once we trust you as a player, you might be able to add onto your character’s powers.
2. Proofreading
For the love of Elvis Presley, proofread your application before you tell us it’s finished. We understand having a few typos or misspellings, but it’s just cruel and unusual punishment to force us to read through something we can’t make any sense out of. The board has a built in spellcheck. Use it.
3. Don’t be ridiculous
If you want to make a species you don’t see in the hunters’ journal – and there are a lot in there, by the way – be smart about it. Talk to us about it before you go to the trouble of making an application, because if it’s something crazy we’re probably gonna make you tweak it to make it fit our board, and apparently people really don’t like that. So, if you’re trying to be “different” and make a species we’ve never seen before, please please PLEASE PM us about it first with the in’s and out’s of how this creature’s gonna work so we can decide whether or not we think it works.
Now, if you legit need help with an application, we’re happy to do what we can for you as long as your receptive and don’t give us an attitude. If you feel we’ve given you an attitude, ask us about it respectfully because most likely we weren’t at all intending to give you attitude. Trust me, if we’re givin’ you ‘tude, you’ll know. You may have noticed a bit of it in this announcement, for example. That’s intentional. I’m pretty fed up.
We might end up adding some of this stuff into out rules officially if it continues to be a problem, but we really hate having to do stuff like that. We’d rather ease up on the rules and restrictions and give people more leeway, but at the moment sorry to say it’s just impossible because of all the problems we keep having. People either don’t follow our instructions, don’t take our feedback, or just throw what we say out the window completely and that’s not cool. So until that B.S. stops, we’re just gonna keep making stupid rules, elementary school style. If you’re cool and haven’t abused any of this stuff, don’t even worry. You’ll be fine. We just have to straighten some people up and get rid of the bad apples we keep getting.
