Welcome to SU: Legacy, a next-gen Supernatural RP that takes place in the year 2040. The Men of Letters has expanded to include three base locations across the continental US. Angels and demons have gone mostly dormant but there are still supernatural evils lurking in the shadows. The legacies could use your help. Are you in?
Giving credit where credit is due. A big thank you to all the coders at PBS and various resource sites for any codes, plug-ins and templates.
Thanks to Nick @ Fidelius for the fabulous mini-profile. Everything else was created by our own staff. If we missed someone please let us know.
We don't own Supernatural, we just enjoy it's awesomeness. Thanks Eric Kripke for creating it, all the writers/producers for putting out a great show and the CW for keeping it on the air for almost 10 years now!
Ruby studied Brody as he answered her question. He spoke casually, like he was talking about sorting laundry or something, but he must’ve been afraid. She was even afraid, and she didn’t scare easily.
“Oh you know, same old same old. Get up in the morning and open the curtains to the wonderful world outside. Avoid getting chewed on by the crazies that roam around the neighbourhood while I’m on my way to see if the big man has any awesomely dangerous, slash disgusting, slash big time evil jobs for me to do. All the while hoping he doesn’t try out his Darth Vader death grip on me because something I did the day before wasn’t quite up to his evil standards. Y’know, the usual.”
Ruby smirked.
“Sounds about right.
Ruby spent most of her time sitting in this cell waiting. Either to be escorted to the shower, brought a meal, or occasionally taken out to do something. She didn’t usually see Lucifer himself unless he had something he needed her to do, or he needed to test her loyalty. Either way, it was never a pleasant experience.
“Oh…what’s that? Did you just leave yourself wide open to me doing this…?”
Ruby watched as Brody jumped two of her checker pieces with one of his own.
“Ohhhh! I think I just did! How does it feel to be on the losing side for once?”
Ruby rolled her eyes. Give him an inch and he takes a mile, she thought.
“Last I checked we were both on the same side,” she muttered.
She studied the checker board and moved one of her pieces forward. It was true. They were both on Lucifer’s side, whether they wanted to be or not.
"We are on the same side. It's called Team No Choice." He pointed out, leaning back in his chair and flicking one of the newly aquired checkers up and down in his hand like a coin.
"Can I ask you something?" Without waiting for an answer he continued, the humour and sarcasm put aside for a moment to be more serious.
"You knew him before this all happened didn't you? Before the whole end of days thing began. Why's he keeping you in this birdcage like a pet, when he pretty much kills everyone else that's a threat to him?"
That was something Brody had often wondered about but had never really had the courage to ask her. Ruby was almost as secretive as Lucifer in that respect, never one to give information away without getting something back in return, but she seemed to be in a decent mood today, he figured he'd just try his luck and see if she blew him off or not.
Ruby sat with her arms folded across her chest as Brody took her checker pieces.
“We are on the same side. It’s called Team No Choice.”
Ruby smirked at that one. The man had a point. It was easy for her to think Brody had it easier than her because he wasn’t locked in a cell, but he was just as much a prisoner as she was.
Ruby’s eyes followed the checker pieces as Brody fiddled with them.
“Can I ask you something?”
Ruby raised an eyebrow at the serious tone his voice had taken on.
“You knew him before this all happened didn’t you? Before the whole end of days thing began. Why’s he keeping you in this birdcage like a pet, when he pretty much kills everyone else that’s a threat to him?”
Ruby frowned thoughtfully. She hadn’t been expecting a question like that and it caught her off guard slightly.
“I didn’t know him,” she corrected. “I knew Sam. Totally different guy. Lucifer was kind of the man behind the curtain down below. He was the big boss and we all knew he was there, but it’s not like we were having chit-chats over the carving rack.”
Ruby leaned forward to move a checker piece absently. There was no thought or strategy behind it. It was just something for her to do while she thought of what else to say.
“He gave me a test,” she said. “Didn’t know it at the time, but that was what it was.”
She shrugged and sat back in the chair to look at him.
“I guess I passed, ‘cause here I am. Not much of a consolation prize.”
The truth was, Ruby didn’t really know why Lucifer kept her around. She was useful, but she was sure she wasn’t the only one who could do the errands he had her doing. Maybe he figured she wouldn’t kill his vessel, so she was safe.
"You're still alive and kicking though, I'd say that was a pretty decent consolation prize. Could be worse, ya know. I mean...it's no packet of chocolate donuts, but...."
Brody's gaze drifted to the sweet treat on the table, his stomach growling quietly to him about being teased. Absently he rubbed one hand over his belly and carried on talking, ignoring his hunger. An old habit from a lifetime of living on the streets. An empty stomach was just a distraction, it didn't mean much to him these days.
"So what was the test? And why do I picture you in a school uniform, wearing glasses and sitting at a desk when you say that?" He added thoughtfully, tilting his head to one side to imagine how absurb that could be. Ruby was a lot of things, but innocent little bookworm? Not a chance in Hell.
